Joseph Crane has been a Buddhist practitioner and student of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche since 1980. He took refuge with the Sixteenth Karmapa Rikpe Dorje in 1981. Joseph moved to Karme Choling Buddhist Contemplative Center in Vermont in 1984 where as head of the kitchen he gained extensive experience mixing meditation practice with cooking and supervising kitchen staff.

Joseph graduated from Brandeis University in 1976 with a B.A. degree in philosophy. After leaving Karme Choling and returning to Boston in 1988, Joseph earned a MA degree in psychotherapy from Lesley University in 1994. Joseph combines knowledge of the dharma with extensive knowledge of different astrology systems and skill as a psychotherapist to work closely with clients who seek a deeper understanding of their personal journey.

Between Fortune and Providence: Astrology and the Universe in Dante’s Divine Comedy published in 2011 is Joseph’s third book on astrology. Joseph is the creator of the online astrology instructional program entitled The Astrology Institute which provides students interested in astrology an opportunity to build a skill set in astrology and humanities through Kepler College. Joseph currently resides in Narragansett, Rhode Island.
